Gaggenau Magazine - ‘The welsh black cow: beauty from Darkness’ Editorial photography
Commissioned by AMP Agency for Gaggenau Magazine, I spent a weekend in Bala, Wales, photographing the Jones family and their Welsh Black cattle for the feature “The Welsh Black Cow: Beauty from Darkness.” The story explores how this ancient breed has shaped the land, heritage, and identity of rural Wales — and how families like the Joneses have worked with them for generations.
Shot entirely on location, my approach was documentary-led and atmospheric, capturing the relationship between people, animals, and landscape through authentic, natural light imagery. I focused on the textures of the environment, the dignity of the herd, and the resilience of the family’s way of life.
The resulting photo essay accompanied a written feature by journalist Andrew Forgrave, celebrating the enduring spirit of Welsh farming and the beauty found in its traditions.
